Learner Support

Learner Support and AEN

The plan is not the end of the process. It is where the support begins.

SchoolWise helps your support team move from information gathering and planning into the work that happens next – putting the right support in front of the teachers involved, connecting targets to progress and evidence, and carrying that work forward into review.

Keep the plans and processes that already work for your school, or build the plan in SchoolWise using guided templates, targets and tracking.

Turn the support plan from a static body of work into a connected process around the learner.

Build the support process without starting again

Your support team already does the hard work of understanding the learner’s needs, agreeing what support is needed and building the plan. That valuable work shouldn’t disappear into documents buried in folders, sit in an MIS or end up as links buried in inboxes.

SchoolWise gives your team built-in templates and workflows to carry the support through.

Information Gathering
Planning and Intervention
Monitoring and Review

Each stage helps guide the work, so your team can gather the right information, build the plan, put support in place and carry it through to review.

Use the plan you already have, or build it in SchoolWise. Either way, the important part is what happens next: the support reaches the teachers who need to act on it.

If your existing plan works, keep it. Upload it once and SchoolWise brings it to the teachers who need it through Gradebook. They can see which learners have a plan and open it directly — rather than searching shared folders, finding links buried in inboxes or relying on someone to remember where it lives.

Or go further and build the plan in SchoolWise. Use the built-in planning structure, your own target bank and domains, then connect targets to the classes and teachers supporting the learner. Instead of opening the full plan and working out what applies to them, teachers can see the targets they are responsible for helping the learner work towards.

So the work your support team puts into the plan does not stop with the plan.

It reaches the people responsible for making it happen.

Support around a learner shouldn’t live in one part of the school.

A learner’s support needs do not disappear when they leave an AEN meeting or walk into a classroom. The people teaching, tracking and supporting them need that context when it matters.

Teachers see the learner

In Gradebook, teachers can see that a learner has a support plan and have direct access the plan or targets they need.

The wider picture

In Academic Tracking, AEN and learner-support information sits alongside performance, attendance and the wider learner picture when your school is trying to understand what is happening.

Tracking and Support

Support when they need it

On the home screen, priority learners can be brought to the attention of the people responsible for supporting them.

Learner Support

Joining the dots

And in the Learner Profile, your support team can see the deeper picture around the learner — needs, plans, progress, notes, attendance, screening, academic information and other context the school already has.

Learner Profile

Don’t wait until review time
to find out how the support is going

Once targets are connected to the teachers supporting the learner, progress can be recorded against those targets as the work happens.

A teacher can add a progress note from Gradebook and link it directly to the target they are supporting. Your support team can add to the same picture through the Learner Profile and support plan workflow.

Over time, the evidence builds against the target. The plan coordinator can then decide whether that target is still active, has been achieved or has not been achieved — at review time or whenever the evidence supports that decision.

Teachers can see that status when they return to the learner’s targets. Your support team can filter progress notes by target and by whether targets are active, achieved or not achieved.

So instead of reaching a review and then trying to reconstruct what happened, your team can see the support, the progress and the evidence already connected.

Target → progress → evidence → status → next action

The monitoring does not begin when the review meeting starts.

It has been happening all along.

Review the support journey
not just the latest version of the plan

When a review is due, your support team should not have to start gathering the story from scratch.

SchoolWise keeps the plan, targets, progress, evidence, decisions and review history connected over time. Your team can see which plans are due in 30, 60 or 90 days, what is overdue, what has changed and what needs to happen next.

Each review builds on the work that came before it, with the plan developing through versions rather than becoming a new disconnected document every time.

And SchoolWise keeps a full timeline of the plan, every change, when it happened and who made it.

So if a parent asks, “What support has my child received over the last three years?”, your team can show the journey rather than trying to reconstruct it from old files, emails and memory.

The evidence is there. The history is there. The next decision starts from what has actually happened.

Give your support team more of the process
to do the work that matters.

Your support team already brings the knowledge, experience and judgement needed to understand the learner and decide what support should look like.

SchoolWise connects that work from information gathering and planning, through teachers and targets, into progress, evidence and review.

So less of the process depends on distributing documents, finding links, chasing feedback, rebuilding the history or working out what has changed since the last review.

And more of it can be spent understanding what is working, what is not, what needs to change and what the learner needs next.

Keep the support model and plans that already work for your school. Use SchoolWise to connect the people, information and follow-through around them.

Your team brings the judgement. SchoolWise carries that work through the whole support process.

Questions schools ask about Learner Support & AEN

Do we have to replace our existing support plans or ILPs?

No. If your school already has support plans that work, you can keep using them.

SchoolWise can connect those existing plans to the wider support process so teachers can see which learners have a plan and open it directly when they need it.

Schools that want to go further can also build plans in SchoolWise using guided templates, targets and tracking.

How do teachers access the support they need for a learner?

SchoolWise brings learner support into the places teachers are already doing the work.

In Gradebook, teachers can see when a learner has a support plan and open the plan or view the targets they are responsible for helping the learner work towards.

They do not have to rely on someone emailing a document, finding the right folder or remembering where the latest plan is stored.

Can teachers record progress against a learner’s targets?

Yes.

Teachers can add progress notes and link them directly to the targets they are supporting. Your support team can add to the same picture through the Learner Profile and support workflow.

That means evidence builds while the support is actually happening rather than having to be gathered from scratch when the review comes around.

How does SchoolWise help with support-plan reviews?

SchoolWise keeps the plan, targets, progress, evidence and review history connected over time.

Your team can see plans that are due for review, including those due within 30, 60 or 90 days and plans that are overdue.

When the review happens, the team can start from what has actually happened since the previous review rather than rebuilding the story from documents, emails and memory.

Can we see whether targets have been achieved?

Yes.

Targets can remain active, be marked as achieved or be marked as not achieved when the evidence supports that decision.

Teachers can see the current target status, while the support team can filter progress by target and status to understand what is working, what is not and what may need to change next.

Does SchoolWise keep a history of the learner’s support over time?

Yes.

SchoolWise keeps a timeline of the support plan, including changes, reviews and who made them. Plans can develop through versions rather than becoming separate disconnected documents every time they are reviewed.

That gives your support team a clearer record of the learner’s support journey and makes it easier to answer questions such as what support has been provided, what changed and what happened next
